Job Title: Recreation Specialist

Join the Brainerd Public Utilities team as a Recreation Specialist, where you will play a vital role in planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of recreation programs and activities for the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement recreation programs and activities for all age groups, including tournaments, youth sports, adult sports, and leisure activities.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire program staff, conduct performance evaluations, and supervise volunteers and program staff.
  • Design and implement promotional materials, advertise programs, and maintain department social media and website platforms.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness, activities, and community needs, and make recommendations for program changes.
  • Collect and analyze data on program participation and engagement, and use data to identify trends and share with stakeholders.
  • Maintain and order concession stand supplies and equipment, and ensure staff are following Minnesota Department of Health guidelines.
  • Observe facilities and grounds for cleanliness and hazardous conditions, and provide information to appropriate staff.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including processing registrations and facility rentals, responding to inquiries and complaints, and sending and receiving email correspondence.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • College courses with major studies in recreation and leisure, parks, sports management, or related field.
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience in recreation and leisure, parks, coaching, sports management, event planning, marketing, or related field.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Possess concussion training, CPR/AED/First Aid certification, and State of MN Food Handler's license within specified timeframes.
