Precision Machinist

Position Title: Precision Machinist

Location: Billings, MT

Role Summary

The Western Sugar Cooperative is seeking a skilled Precision Machinist. This role entails the operation, maintenance, and repair of various mobile and stationary machinery within the factory's machine shop.

Key Responsibilities

• Exhibit leadership in safety practices and demonstrate strong safety behaviors.
• Utilize a range of machine tools to fabricate and repair mechanical components.
• Document all necessary data to achieve expected service and design outcomes, including measurements and diagrams.
• Employ measuring instruments and techniques accurately to ensure correct dimensions.
• Conduct milling tasks such as drilling, tapping, boring, and standard milling operations, as well as lathe work.
• Implement various metalizing techniques as required.
• Perform welding tasks, including setup and operation of MIG, TIG, and stick welders.
• Prepare and execute tool-post grinding tasks, broaching, and babbitt bearing work.
• Utilize a variety of hand-held and stationary tools, including band saws and grinders.
• Safely lift, secure, and adjust heavy items to perform work effectively.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Assist fellow maintenance staff with both skilled and unskilled tasks as directed.
• Personal machinist tools are required.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• High School diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
• Proficient knowledge and experience in:
• Manual lathes, threading, drilling, grinding, reaming, knurling, and thermal spray coating.
• Experience with hand tools, lathes, and mills for mechanical assembly tasks.
• Ability to use measuring devices for precise sizing and tolerances.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and capable of making independent decisions.
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
• Identify and rectify damaged components or machinery.
• Capacity to stand or move for extended periods, including rotating shifts and overtime.
• Ability to lift and carry loads up to 100 lbs.
• Must comply with all PPE requirements.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
