Key Responsibilities
  1. Instructional Support:
    • Deliver customized instruction to accommodate the unique needs of students with disabilities, including those with learning challenges, emotional and behavioral disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
    • Employ a variety of teaching methods, such as direct instruction, collaborative teaching, and small group sessions, to enhance student learning outcomes.
    • Modify and adapt educational materials to ensure accessibility for all learners.
  2. Individualized Education Programs (IEPs):
    • Design, execute, and assess IEPs for students with disabilities, ensuring that objectives are specifically aligned with each student's requirements.
    • Conduct evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services and to guide instructional strategies.
    • Regularly review and adjust IEPs in partnership with parents, general education teachers, and relevant staff members.
  3. Collaboration:
    • Work in conjunction with general education teachers to facilitate the inclusion of students with disabilities in mainstream classrooms.
    • Coordinate with related service providers, including speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists, to offer comprehensive support to students.
    • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and involve them in the educational journey.
  4. Behavior Management:
    • Implement positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) to foster a safe and encouraging classroom environment.
    • Develop and execute behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students facing behavioral challenges, collaborating with the school's multidisciplinary team.
    • Monitor and document student behavior, offering constructive feedback and support to help students cultivate appropriate social and emotional skills.
  5. Professional Development:
    • Engage in continuous professional development to remain informed about best practices in special education.
    • Participate in reflective practices to enhance instructional methods and classroom management techniques.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related discipline.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) endorsement.
  • Experience working with students with a variety of disabilities, preferably in a K-12 educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of special education regulations, including IDEA and Section 504.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational abilities.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
