JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for overseeing and directing subordinate personnel. Serves as the lead officer during assigned shifts, ensuring the safety and order of the facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates and supervises the activities of assigned staff members.
  • Manages administrative responsibilities such as documentation, record-keeping, and report generation.
  • Designs and enforces operational and security protocols.
  • Implements rules, regulations, and laws critical for the management of juvenile offenders and public safety.
  • Trains and oversees canines for various functions including tracking, search and rescue, and contraband detection.
  • Responsible for the inspection, inventory, and control of keys, tools, weapons, and equipment.
  • Ensures adherence to institutional policies and regulations.
  • Maintains order and security in designated areas in accordance with relevant guidelines and laws.
  • May conduct disciplinary hearings and monitor the behavior of youth offenders to avert disturbances.
  • Assists in the training and onboarding of new correctional security personnel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Certification as a Juvenile Correctional Officer by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council
  • At least one year of experience in a Juvenile Justice environment
  • Completion of one or more years of college education

MILITARY SALARY INCENTIVES:

  • 2.5% increase for one year of active duty service
  • 5% increase for two years of active duty service
  • 7.5% increase for three years of active duty service
  • 10% increase for four or more years of active duty service

NOTE: This position is open to both internal and external candidates.

IMPORTANT: This is an unclassified role.

All candidates will undergo a reference check and criminal background screening as part of the selection process.

Required Qualifications: High school diploma or GED, current and valid Georgia P.O.S.T. certification, and one year of experience at the lower-level Juvenile Correctional Sergeant position or its equivalent. A valid Driver's License is also required.
