Job Summary:

The Georgia Department of Public Safety is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Attorney to join our team. As an Attorney, you will provide legal assistance to the Department's Commissioner and employees, serving as the primary liaison with the Office of the Attorney General.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal guidance on matters related to the Department's daily operations, including administrative hearings, contract drafting and review, and representation of government agencies.
  • Research and analyze current statutory, regulatory, and case law affecting the Department's mission.
  • Assist the Director and Deputy Director with drafting, managing, and reviewing proposed legislation and regulations.
  • Identify and resolve legal problems, and provide verbal and written analysis and recommendations on daily operations.
  • Teach classes on various topics, including legal and non-legal subjects, to Troopers and other Department employees.

Required Qualifications:

  • Member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia.
  • Government experience, preferably in government legal services.
  • Familiarity with state government structure and operations.
  • One year of experience in one or more areas: criminal prosecutions, administrative hearings, contract drafting and review, drafting and review of state legislation and/or regulations, representation of government agencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching classes to non-lawyers.
  • Ability to effectively interact with and provide support and guidance to agency leaders.
