Job SummaryWe are seeking an Art or Dance/Movement Therapist to join our interdisciplinary treatment team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality art therapy or dance/movement therapy services to adults with serious mental illness, 18 to 64 years of age. This includes conducting client functional evaluations, planning and facilitating therapeutic interventions, and documenting client progress according to hospital and departmental policy.
Responsibilities- Conduct client functional evaluations using modality-specific assessments and observations
- Provide quality art therapy or dance/movement therapy services to adults with serious mental illness
- Plan and facilitate therapeutic interventions that promote hope and recovery
- Document client progress according to hospital and departmental policy
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Master's Degree from an accredited School in Psychology with concentration in Art Therapy or MA in Art Therapy and certification by the Art Therapy Credentials Board
- Graduation from an ADTA-approved Graduate Program that meets educational requirements for Dance/Movement Therapist as a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT) or Board Certified Dance Movement Therapist (BC-DMT)
- Work/internship experience dealing with adult mental illness, intellectual deficits, and complex medical needs
- Valid Virginia driver's license
- Ability to develop, plan, organize, and implement art or dance/movement therapy interventions and groups utilizing evidence-based and trauma-informed treatment strategies
- Proficient in verbal and written communication skills
- Awareness of safety/security procedures
- Ability to manage aggressive/assaultive clients utilizing approved TOVA techniques and assist in verbal de-escalation of individuals as needed
