- During initial license training, total compensation ranges from $159,000 to $182,000 annually (based on experience and prior license status), including a 15% annual incentive bonus, an initial sign-on bonus, and a $10,000 bonus distributed through training milestones, along with a comprehensive benefits package and a 401(k) with employer matching.
- Upon obtaining SRO licensure, total compensation may reach $191,000 annually, including a 15% annual incentive bonus and additional pay for extended hours worked at 1.5 times the base salary for mandated operational shift coverage.

Job Summary During Training for NRC License
The initial license trainee will participate in a blend of classroom learning, simulator training, and hands-on experience to develop the essential skills and knowledge required to qualify as a Senior Reactor Operator License holder. Upon successful completion of the qualification process, the candidate will receive full licensure from the NRC to oversee reactor control room operations.
- Completion of Fundamentals Phase, Simulator Certification, and attainment of NRC SRO License (80%)
- Study time and field experience necessary to achieve licensed status (10%)
- Project work, outage assignments, or other duties as assigned to support site operations (10%)
Job Responsibilities
- Authorize maintenance and testing activities to ensure the proper status of equipment.
- Implement Emergency Operating Procedures and direct the necessary procedural steps to stabilize the plant during emergencies or abnormal conditions.
- Evaluate and address issues, findings, open items, and requests from both internal and external sources.
- Oversee special projects as determined by the Operations Director/Operations Managers.
- Create, revise, and review Emergency Operating Procedures and Abnormal Operating Procedures to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the Nuclear Generating Station Units.
- Review design and license changes for procedural impact, conduct 10CFR50.59 applicability reviews, and support outages and various special projects.
- Examine system documentation, including P&ID and design descriptions.
- Provide operability assessments for systems, particularly during off-normal conditions.
- Assist in developing refueling sequences and ensure systems are prepared for shutdown and refueling operations.
- Direct operating shift personnel in executing plant duties, including maintaining watch on rotating 12-hour shifts and coordinating the operation of the nuclear power plant's systems. Shift work, ongoing training with periodic evaluations, respirator qualification, and maintaining qualification as a member of the plant Fire Brigade are essential requirements for this role.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and Basic Math and Science Test (BMST) pre-employment assessments
- Must successfully complete a FLS Leadership Assessment
- Meet or exceed one of the following:
- 1 year of Reactor Operator license at a comparable facility or 1.5 years at a non-comparable facility. Comparable is PWR to PWR or BWR to BWR; non-comparable is PWR to BWR or BWR to PWR.
- 1.5 years or more in a position equivalent to Reactor Operator (or Supervisor) at a military reactor (e.g., Power Plant Watch Engineer, Engineering Watch Supervisor, Reactor Operator, Engineering Officer of the Watch, Propulsion Plant Watch Supervisor). Must have 1.5 years post-qualification.
- Bachelor's degree (BS) or equivalent in engineering, engineering technology, or physical sciences, or a professional engineer license, with over 1.5 years as a qualified non-licensed operator or a supervisor or manager in work control, operations, engineering, outage management, maintenance, radiation protection, chemistry, or accredited training at a comparable (BWR or PWR) facility. Managerial, staff engineer, or supervisory experience at a non-comparable plant may be credited on a 1.5:1.0 basis (i.e., over 2.25 years required for non-comparable facility), and 3 years required for a nontraditional degree.
