Shift: 12-Hour Night Shift
Role Summary:
The Patient Care Technician plays a crucial role in delivering direct patient support, assisting healthcare professionals and physicians in the provision of care tailored to the patient's needs.
General Patient Support: Responsible for addressing the comfort and hygiene requirements of patients through various care services, including bathing, oral hygiene, hair care, and assisting with bedpan or urinal use. This role also involves changing linens and bedding, distributing meals and beverages, taking vital signs, and collecting laboratory specimens.
Technical Assistance: Aids in the execution of patient testing and treatment protocols, including setting up and priming IV lines, performing 12-lead ECGs, basic tracheostomy suctioning and care, dressing changes, and conducting cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Additionally, responsible for obtaining wound and throat cultures.
Equipment Support: Collaborates with physicians and healthcare staff to ensure the proper supply and setup of medical equipment.
Patient Mobility: Assists in the ambulation of patients using assistive devices such as crutches and facilitates transfer and transport procedures.
Effective Communication: Responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and communicating effectively to meet the needs of patients and their families, while adhering to regulatory standards. Ensures the confidentiality of patient, employee, and departmental information to uphold patient rights.
Quality Improvement: Strives to utilize time and resources efficiently to enhance quality and cost-effectiveness in patient care.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Education:
Preferred: High School Diploma
Minimum Experience:
Required: Less than one year of relevant experience
Preferred: 1-2 years of relevant experience
Licensure/Certifications:
Required:
Certified Nurse Assistant
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
Other: Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equivalent or higher educational level in a clinically focused program. Individuals previously employed as Patient Care Technicians at Loyola University Medical Center prior to 1997 are exempt from the above guidelines and are grandfathered into the Patient Care Technician roles upon successful completion of an in-house orientation and training program.
