We are seeking a highly skilled Procurement Specialist to join our team at Watkins Concrete Block Company. As a key member of our purchasing department, you will be responsible for the timely placement of purchase orders and delivery of materials to meet company and customer order requirements while maintaining stock inventory levels within approved guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
  • Solicit bids, analyze quotations received, and select or recommend suppliers. May interview prospective vendors.
  • Manage all aspects of incoming freight.
  • Review technical specifications and using department requirements to determine the nature of request, the best procurement method to be used with respect to purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Conduct product research to determine the technical specifications suitable to meet the using department needs. Utilize the Internet for research.
  • Maintain computerized inventory records, which includes tabulating and recording data on inventory costs and supply levels to ensure an accurate and cost-efficient inventory of product and supplies.
  • Reviews stock and records to propose remedial action on slow moving, excess or nonusable stock items.
  • Assist Purchasing Manager in purchasing, negotiating contracts for items, materials, or services of a technical and specialized nature.
  • Assists in standardizing procedures so employees maintain procedures that ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Resolve purchase order and invoice differences with suppliers, as to wrong deliveries, payments, invoices, credits, payment terms, and duplicate billings.
  • Assist with daily inventory and update and/or make revisions to inventory on computer as needed.
  • Administer all orders for the Rebar Department.
  • Assist front counter sales when needed, including a rotating Saturday schedule.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred and at least two years of responsible buying experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires accurate, timely and effective purchasing skills and the ability to review, verify and process requisitions and purchase orders.
  • Previous experience in inventory control, warehouse &/or construction products related field is desired.
  • Must have a good sense of detail.
  • Must have good math skills and an ability to work under pressure.
  • Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Must have good analytical and problem-solving skills.
