Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Probationary Police Officer to join our team at the City of Boerne. As a Probationary Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting life and property, and preserving peace in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas to prevent crimes and enforce laws and ordinances.
  • Respond to emergency calls and routine complaints, taking necessary action to ensure public safety.
  • Direct traffic, issue traffic citations, and operate traffic radar monitoring equipment.
  • Investigate traffic accidents and crimes against persons and property.
  • Conduct interviews with witnesses, complainants, and suspects, and take statements and depositions.
  • Serve warrants and make arrests, as necessary.
  • Keep records of activities and make reports concerning crimes, complaints, accidents, and investigations.
  • Appear in court as required, providing testimony and evidence.
  • Share information and collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, as directed.
  • Conduct security checks of businesses and residential areas on patrol routes.
  • Perform routine maintenance and upkeep of department vehicles.
  • Assist emergency medical personnel, firefighters, and Animal Control Officers, as needed.
  • Foster positive police-community relations among residents in the community.
  • Assist in criminal investigations, including sexual assault cases, child abuse cases, and homicides.
  • Collect and log evidence, as required.
  • Participate in departmental public activities, including speaking engagements at schools, churches, and civic organizations.
  • May be assigned to specialized roles, such as traffic enforcement, suspect apprehension, or internal affairs.
Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent, plus at least two years of related police experience (some college work in law enforcement preferred).
  • Participation in and successful completion of the Field Training Program.
  • Basic Certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCOLE).
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • May require a Basic Life Support Certificate, as needed.
