We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Substitute to join our team at the Jonathan Alder Local School District. As a key member of our Student Support Services team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our students.
Responsibilities
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, students, parents, and school district staff to ensure access and continuity of care for students.
• Assist in establishing and maintaining a comprehensive school health program.
• Collect and analyze health and development data for students to ensure compliance with state regulations and Board of Education policies.
• Conduct school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and sight and hearing testing.
• Provide nursing assessment and care for students who are ill or injured, and refer them to medical professionals as needed.
• Evaluate and adjust nursing care plans as necessary to ensure optimal student outcomes.
• Implement Board policies regarding student exclusion and readmission due to infectious or contagious diseases.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and federal law, and Board of Education policies.
• Develop individual health care plans (IHCPs) for students with specific goals, nursing diagnoses, and interventions.
• Implement nursing actions to promote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness, and effect rehabilitation.
• Serve as a member of school teams, including Crisis Teams, IEP, and Section 504.
• Provide guidance, counseling, and health education to students, parents, and employees as needed.
• Report to parents, school district personnel, physicians, clinics, and others as necessary to meet student health needs.
• Provide instruction and training on the Heimlich Maneuver, Blood Borne Pathogen training, the school district's Emergency plan, and care for students with disabilities.
• Contribute to nursing and school health through innovations in theory, practice, and participation in research.
• Provide medical assessment to school district employees as requested.
• Provide health education to students as requested.
• Notify the appropriate person or agency of student injuries or illnesses in accordance with Board policy.
• Confer with parents, students, and school district staff and professionals to interpret health and developmental assessments.
• Use medical equipment to provide health care to students and staff.
• Possess knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, first aid, illnesses, and injuries.
• Diagnose and provide care for ill or injured students.
• Convey medical information to school district staff or medical professionals to ensure proper maintenance in the school setting.
• Perform arithmetic operations as needed for the position.
• Understand, apply, and use personal computers and software applications.
• Solve job-related issues.
• Work with a diverse group of individuals and students with special needs.
• Follow oral and written orders from supervisors, administrators, physicians, and coordinate work with principal, teachers, and others.
• Describe school health services provided, issues, and concerns regarding school health.
Requirements
• Ohio Licensed Registered Nurse and ODE School Nurse License.
• Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification through Red Cross.
• Diabetic and Insulin Administration Training.
• Cardiac Arrest and AED Training.
• COVID-19 PPE and Sanitizing training.
• Other yearly trainings as assigned.
