Summary:
The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing essential cleaning and maintenance tasks within university buildings, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all occupants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts comprehensive floor care, including sweeping, mopping, buffing, stripping, and refinishing various surfaces.
- Vacuuming and shampooing carpets to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
- Thoroughly cleans and disinfects restroom facilities, ensuring all surfaces are sanitized and well-stocked with necessary supplies.
- Handles cleaning of windows, blinds, doors, and furniture, ensuring all areas are presentable.
- Properly manages and utilizes chemical cleaning agents in accordance with safety protocols.
- Replaces burned-out light fixtures and reports any maintenance issues promptly.
- Collects and disposes of waste appropriately, while maintaining recycling efforts.
- Clears snow and applies ice melt around entrances and exits to ensure safety.
- Maintains cleanliness in common areas, including hallways, elevators, and vending spaces.
- Locks and unlocks doors as necessary and manages alarm systems effectively.
- Assists with setup and breakdown for special events, including ceremonies and conferences.
- Prepares classrooms and residence halls for new students, ensuring all areas are clean and organized.
Minimum Qualifications:
- No prior experience is required.
- A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic mathematical and reading skills.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Ability to interact positively with students, faculty, and the public.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to operate custodial equipment.
