Responsibilities

The Structural Engineer II performs structural analysis of low complexity on existing communication structures, including guyed, self-supporting, monopoles, mounts, rigging plans, rooftops, platform designs, site compounds, and their foundations. They prepare formal, written reports detailing structural capacity and recommendations for modifications to increase capacity. The Structural Engineer II supports more experienced engineers in the analysis of more complex structures and in the design of modifications to existing telecommunications infrastructure. They also assist in the review of field inspections on non-complex towers and work with experienced engineers to recommend remediation requirements for less complicated issues.

Essential Duties:
  • Review requests for engineering services to determine that adequate information is provided to complete the service.
  • Review tower structures and foundations for existing, proposed, and reserved tenant configurations.
  • Review of mount analysis, rigging plans, construction drawings, and pre/post inspection reports.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to ensure proper implementation of engineering designs.
  • Work with existing processes to correctly open analysis projects.
  • Perform analyses on projects of low complexity using hand calculations, structural analysis software, and other accepted methods.
  • Assist in the design of modifications for telecommunication infrastructure reinforcing, extensions, and foundations.
  • Work with Designer staff on the development of modification drawings.
  • Ensure accurate project status reporting to facilitate accurate customer and sales reporting.
  • Adhere to applicable safety and OSHA procedures.
  • Generate required engineering reports.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or a related field required.
  • Engineer in training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in the telecommunications industry.
  • 3+ years of experience in the field of engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience with AutoCAD required.
  • Prior experience with 2D and 3D preferred.
  • Must have a working knowledge of structural analysis software and tower structures and design methods.
  • Must have a working knowledge of proper steel detailing.
  • Must have a working knowledge of structural components and design methods.
  • Customer Service – Responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve partnership.
  • Ability to work with functional groups and different levels of employees throughout the MasTec Network Solutions organization to effectively and professionally achieve business results.
  • Ability to develop and produce structural modification drawings and be accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient in computer software programs, including AutoCAD and the Microsoft office suites.
  • Communication Skills – Excellent communication skills; speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; demonstrates group presentation skills.
  • Planning/Organizing – Excellent time management; organizational; plans work activities; sets goals and objectives; develops realistic action plans; completes tasks.

  • Must have the ability and be willing to travel, as required, for job-related functions.
