Staff Attorney for Youth and Children

Job Overview:
">The Immigration Advocates Network is seeking a dedicated and passionate Staff Attorney to join our team. This role will provide direct representation for children and young people up to 21 years old who are eligible for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and Spanish, have a strong commitment to social justice and anti-racism, and be able to start the position as soon as possible.
">About the Role:
">The SIJS Staff Attorney will conduct intake for youth under the age of 21 years virtually, provide legal advice, referrals, mediation, and in-court representation as needed in civil actions that will result in an Order for SIJS. They will also investigate each case, analyze facts in light of relevant legal considerations, conduct legal research, prepare litigation strategy, motions, and briefs, and argue specific legal motions and pleadings. The ideal candidate will have experience as a practicing attorney or law school work/internship/externship, with a strong background in juvenile dependencies, child welfare, and immigration law.
">Responsibilities:
">This role will involve conducting intakes, providing legal advice, referrals, mediation, and in-court representation; investigating cases, analyzing facts, and conducting legal research; preparing litigation strategies, motions, and briefs; arguing specific legal motions and pleadings; partnering with local community service providers, immigration attorneys, and LCYC Legal Supervisor on the direct delivery of services and continual improvement of the service model and its local adaptation; working with Pro Bono attorneys and Pro Bono Manager to expand services; participating in regular case staffings with LCYC Legal Supervisor, weekly meetings with the Justice Expansion Team, general staff monthly meetings, and annual retreats with all LCYC staff; tracking time and pertinent case data from intakes and closing in LCYC's case management system; and regularly participating in staff meetings, trainings, and identity group conversations on equity and systemic racism.
">Requirements:
">To be successful in this role, you will need to have a demonstrated commitment to the mission of protecting the interests and safety of youth in Washington by advancing their legal rights. You will also need to have the ability to live and practice in the state of Washington, be a member of the Washington State Bar Association, and be fluent in English and Spanish, speaking and writing. Experience as a practicing attorney or law school work/internship/externship, with a strong background in juvenile dependencies, child welfare, and immigration law, is strongly preferred.
">Salary:$85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience
