Position Overview
The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for utilizing advanced medical imaging technology to generate high-quality diagnostic radiographs while adhering to established safety protocols and regulatory standards. This role involves operating both portable and stationary x-ray equipment, preparing examination areas, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the imaging process.
Key Responsibilities
- Adjusts imaging equipment and determines the appropriate techniques to ensure accurate patient positioning.
- Engages in effective communication with healthcare team members, including physicians and patients.
- Adheres to patient-identification protocols prior to conducting imaging procedures.
- Communicates findings with supervisors promptly after completing examinations to facilitate timely image review.
- Observes and practices radiation safety measures consistently.
- Conducts necessary radiologic examinations as per physician orders.
- Prepares patients for imaging procedures by explaining the process, assisting with transfers, and positioning them correctly.
- Ensures examination rooms and equipment are ready and stocked for patient use.
- Produces high-quality radiographs and repeats images as required for diagnostic clarity.
- Inputs and transmits patient data into the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) immediately after examinations.
- Reports any technical issues or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
- Provides ongoing supervision and observation of patients, particularly those with behavioral health needs, while implementing non-violent crisis intervention strategies.
Qualifications
- Must possess a valid general x-ray license from the relevant state authority, maintaining good standing throughout employment.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, also to be kept active during employment.
- Completion of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training within the first 180 days of employment or transfer, with ongoing certification required.
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiologic Technology.
Skills and Competencies
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program is preferred.
- Ability to interact positively and constructively with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Proficient in verbal and written communication in English.
- Capable of maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive patient information.
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to meet individual patient needs.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
