Position Overview:

The Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute is on the lookout for a Clinical Laboratory Specialist to execute proficient clinical laboratory tasks in accordance with established protocols. This role entails conducting both automated and manual analyses in hematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and fluid cytology. Additionally, the specialist may engage in the technical assessment of new laboratory instruments, method innovation, and oversee the revision and evaluation of laboratory policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor all laboratory procedures and quality control measures to guarantee the precision and reliability of test outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with the standards set by regulatory and certifying organizations.
  • Collaborate with a diverse biomedical research team focused on investigating the pathogenesis of infectious agents and the toxicity of environmental pollutants and pharmaceutical products.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or a related discipline is required, along with a minimum of one year of experience as a laboratory generalist. Alternatively, candidates with an MLT certification and two years of clinical laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and training, will be considered.

Certification from a recognized agency (such as ASCP, NCA, or AMT) is mandatory, although candidates currently pursuing certification who can achieve it within six months of employment will also be considered.

Demonstrated expertise as a laboratory generalist in hematology, chemistry, and urinalysis is essential. Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and experience in laboratory animal research or an ABSL3 environment is preferred.

A post-offer physical examination and background check are prerequisites, along with the ability and willingness to obtain necessary vaccinations and clearances. Candidates must also be able to gain and maintain access to specific facilities.

Physical Requirements:

This role is conducted in a laboratory setting. The specialist will operate standard laboratory equipment and may frequently stand, walk, sit, and perform both laboratory and desk-based computer tasks. The position requires manual dexterity for laboratory techniques, repetitive motions, and occasionally lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Personal protective equipment, which may include a respirator, will be utilized. The specialist may work in proximity to research animals and may be required to engage with hazardous materials and/or infectious agents, necessitating vaccinations.

Compensation:

Salary will be commensurate with experience, along with a sign-on bonus.
