About the Role

The State of Connecticut is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Workers Compensation District Operations Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our district office, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing the operations of the district, ensuring the efficient processing of workers' compensation claims, and facilitating the dispute resolution process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule, assign, and oversee the work of staff
  • Provide training and assistance to staff
  • Conduct performance evaluations
  • Determine priorities and plan unit work
  • Establish and maintain unit procedures
  • Develop or recommend policies and standards
  • Act as liaison with operating units, agencies, and outside officials
  • Prepare reports and correspondence
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to Commission hearings
  • Assist in planning and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Serve as liaison with claimants, attorneys, insurance company representatives, employers, investigators, and Commissioners
  • Respond to oral and written inquiries
  • Schedule hearings
  • Process Commission legal and record-keeping functions
  • Manage Commissioner's caseload and pending litigation schedule
  • Identify and resolve scheduling backlog
  • Perform general business functions
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Considerable knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public administration
  • Workers' Compensation injury procedures in public and private sectors
  • Legal practices and procedures in Connecticut
  • Legal hearing procedures
  • Legal research procedures and terminology
  • Office procedures, such as personnel and payroll practices and purchasing procedures
  • Considerable interpersonal skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to comprehend and apply statutes, regulations, and administrative policies and procedures
  • Deliver presentations for external and internal groups
  • Utilize computer software
  • Supervisory ability
Preferred Qualifications

Experience processing workers' compensation claims, experience with legal hearing scheduling and procedures, experience communicating with claimants, attorneys, and insurance representatives, experience supervising and reviewing employee performance, experience managing operations and competing priorities in an office setting, and experience with internal and external stakeholder conflict resolution.
