Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patrons, responding to their inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with the implementation of projects and the creation of policies and procedures that achieve optimal operational workflow.
  • Manage an assigned portion of the library budget, ensuring effective use of resources and adherence to budgetary guidelines.
  • Review and select materials for collections in various formats, ensuring their relevance and quality.
  • Perform delivery of materials to patrons or other locations, ensuring timely and efficient service.
  • Train and direct volunteers in assigned duties, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Answer patron questions and instruct patrons in the use of library systems, promoting literacy and lifelong learning.
  • Create purchase orders and send to appropriate vendors, ensuring accurate and timely ordering.
  • Locate materials for patrons, retrieve reserve books, renew and check books in and out, and receive and record monies.
  • Plan, create, and maintain displays for promotion of collection materials, enhancing the library's visual appeal.
  • Review donated items for potential to be added to collection, responding to memorial donations and coordinating donation program.
  • Interact extensively with patrons, district-wide staff, and management, outside agencies, vendors, and other libraries, promoting collaboration and partnerships.
  • Use various computer systems to enter, edit, and retrieve information, ensuring accurate and efficient data management.
  • Maintain accurate records and files, ensuring compliance with library policies and procedures.
  • May oversee and train volunteers and part-time staff in work procedures, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to two (2) years of college-level coursework in library sciences.
  • Four (4) years of library customer service/support experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of library services, functions, reference materials, and automated systems.
  • Standard terminology and practices of library support work.
  • Library public desk etiquette and methods of providing information.
  • Business arithmetic.
  • Standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment.
  • Computer applications related to library services.
  • Financial record keeping and bookkeeping practices and techniques.
  • Record keeping principles and practices.
  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position with the Carson City Library, located in Carson City, NV. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with patrons, staff, and management, and will be required to perform a variety of tasks, including those listed above.

The City of Carson City offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off. The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
