Job Summary:

The Special Education Team Chairperson will be responsible for ensuring that special education students receive every opportunity to be educated within the mainstream learning environment and adhere to the intent and timelines of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain compliance with special education regulations and ensure that all necessary documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
  2. Work closely with students, parents, and staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of each student.
  3. Chair Team meetings and ensure that all necessary signatures are obtained in a timely manner.
  4. Provide consultative services to parents, teachers, and administrators to support the implementation of IEPs and ensure that students receive equal educational opportunities.
  5. Participate in providing in-service training to professionals and parents to promote understanding and support of special education services.
  6. Assume responsibility for the coordination of the evaluation team process, including contacting parents, coordinating and completing evaluations, and processing IEPs within regulatory timelines.
  7. Develop and maintain complete and cumulative individual records of special education students.
  8. Arrange IEP review/reevaluation assessments and meetings to discuss student progress and write new or amended IEPs.
  9. Act as a liaison with community agencies to ensure that students receive necessary services and support.
