Mercy Health is seeking a Student Nurse Extern to join our team. As a Student Nurse Extern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced healthcare environment while working alongside our experienced nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, feeding, toileting, dressing, and grooming.
- Perform routine patient care tasks, such as obtaining specimens, recording vital signs, and applying ice/heat/compress/dressings.
- Assist with mobility, including active and passive range of motion, lifting, turning, repositioning, ambulation, and transportation.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure prompt attention to patient needs.
- Participate in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs.
- Currently enrolled in a professional school of nursing and have successfully completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical experience.
- CPR certification.
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and patient information.
- Accurately reporting and documenting data and services provided.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with the multidisciplinary team and patients.
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads. The employee may be exposed to high noise levels, bright lights, and physical altercations and verbal abuse. The employee may also be required to use physical restraints and be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials.
