The individual will be responsible for ensuring that assigned spaces are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion. Duties may include the relocation of furniture and equipment as necessary.

Job Purpose: This opportunity is intended for current employees wishing to transfer to a different school location within the system. This includes voluntary transfers, employees affected by surplus situations, and those from closing locations. Transitioning into this role from another position is contingent upon the absence of surplus employees needing placement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, waxing, and buffing floors, hallways, stairs, and interior spaces. Utilize standard cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaners and buffers.
  • Wash and maintain windows, walls, and ceilings; polish brass and clean display equipment and other surfaces. Dust and polish furniture as required.
  • Ensure restrooms are kept sanitary and well-maintained.
  • Collect and transport waste and refuse from designated areas to appropriate disposal sites.
  • Assist in moving and rearranging furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Replace and install light bulbs as necessary.
  • May involve outdoor tasks such as weeding, lawn mowing, and snow or ice removal from walkways and grounds.
  • Collaborate with others to maintain inventory of supplies and materials.
  • Adhere to all policies regarding equal employment and non-discrimination; comply with federal and state laws, school board policies, and professional standards.

Salary Information:

Maximum Salary: $18.85
Minimum Salary: $16.79

Qualifications:

  • Completion of the eighth grade is required.
  • At least six months of experience in cleaning or custodial work.
  • A valid Maryland Noncommercial Class C or equivalent driver's license is optional.
  • Familiarity with cleaning methods, materials, and techniques.
  • Understanding of basic safety practices and procedures related to custodial work.
  • Ability to operate and maintain basic hand and power cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Competence in handling cleaning chemicals and solutions.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions effectively.
