Job Summary
The Head Cashier is a key member of our retail team, responsible for ensuring seamless transactions and providing outstanding customer service. This role involves managing cash register operations, assisting with office duties, and contributing to the overall success of our store.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Project a positive image of Westlake Ace Hardware at all times.
- Greet customers warmly and thank them by name whenever possible.
- Ensure excellent customer service from those supervised.
- Respond promptly and courteously to customer inquiries and concerns.
- Communicate any issues that require management attention.
- Follow all cash register transaction procedures.
- Balance the register drawer accurately and efficiently.
- Implement Store Support Center programs and promotions at the cash registers.
- Assist with register and computer issues, including downloads, upgrades, and fixes.
- In the absence of the Assistant Manager-Operations, verify cashier-balancing procedures.
- Verify deposit procedures and policies on a daily basis.
- Prepare deposit, long/short recap, cashier over-short acknowledgements, and sales audits.
- Verify weekend vault counts and randomly verify vault.
- Provide assistance to the Assistant Manager-Operations with office duties, including receiving, invoices, purchase orders, inventory adjustments, etc.
- Assist the Assistant Manager-Operations with the quarterly audit checklist as needed.
- Observe cashiers for proper phone etiquette, greeting customers, handling returns correctly, and treating customers attentively.
- Maintain a clean and organized front end at all times.
- Face and dust front end displays.
- Keep impulse counters stocked and faced, rotating fresh merchandise as seasons change.
- Ensure fresh ads are stocked in shopping carts at all times.
- Stock forms and supplies as needed.
- Assist with decorating the front end according to Store Support Center programs.
- Call for cart pickups when necessary.
- Communicate merchandising, cost control, or sales ideas to the General Manager for follow-up.
- Participate in store and cashier meetings.
- Assist with training and development of new cashiers.
- Work with the Assistant Manager-Operations to prepare for advancement opportunities.
- Exhibit and incorporate our Core Values into daily decisions and interactions with others.
- High School or GED equivalent.
- Experience in retail and/or office management preferred.
- Cashier experience preferred.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 25lbs, and climb.
