Heavy Construction Inspector

We are seeking a highly skilled Heavy Construction Inspector to join our team at Smithwick Engineering LLC. This is a full-time position based on experience level, offering a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
Job OverviewThis role involves conducting site visits throughout the continental United States to inspect crane and runway systems supporting the general material handling industry. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, be physically fit, and have a willingness to learn and work independently.
The successful candidate will work under a mentor, gradually improving their skills and transitioning into an independent delivery role with less oversight. This position requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with site owners and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough site inspections of crane and runway systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and codes.
- Travel extensively throughout the continental United States, occasionally on weekends and nights, to support survey and inspection job scopes.
- Generate field reports based on observations from the survey, highlighting areas of non-compliance or required maintenance.
- Support after-action reviews and job closeout tasks, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed accurately.
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in structural inspection or crane inspection.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, for developing spreadsheets and presenting formal findings reports.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. and ability to work standard 8am to 5pm CST work week hours.
- Prior NDT Certifications (MT or PT) are preferred.
- Familiarity with survey techniques, including Total Station and 3-D Laser Scanner.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting engineered drawings.
- Knowledge of standard construction practices and techniques.
