Job Summary

The Chief Philanthropy Officer is a key leadership position responsible for developing and implementing the fundraising strategies for Northern Illinois Food Bank. This role requires a strategic thinker who can drive annual fundraising goals and effectively manage a team of fundraising professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to achieve annual goals.
  • Lead a team of fundraising professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure successful fundraising outcomes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Oversee the development and execution of special events, campaigns, and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Board of Directors to establish a strong presence in the community and increase the organization's visibility as a funding source.
  • Identify opportunities to engage new donors and maintain relationships with current and past donors.
  • Manage a portfolio of major individual and organizational donors, consistently cultivating and soliciting support.
  • Oversee the volunteer department, recruiting and stewarding volunteers to support the organization's mission.
  • Lead the Marketing Communications team to build awareness and target marketing strategies to promote the organization's mission and expertise.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in fundraising and donor solicitation, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising targets.
  • 5+ years of management experience, with a proven ability to lead and develop a team.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience in all areas of philanthropy, including grant writing, major gifts, planned giving, direct mail, cause marketing, and foundation and corporate fundraising.
  • Experience in marketing and communications, including brand management, advertising, social media, organizational communication, and media relations.
  • Exposure to volunteer management, including recruitment, engagement, and stewardship.
  • Proven effectiveness in leading the public relations/communications function and media relations experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite and experience with a Donor Database.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading a Capital Campaign and Strategic Planning.
  • CFRE Certification.
