Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Police Dispatcher at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. As a key member of our public safety team, you will be responsible for providing critical support to our law enforcement officers and ensuring the safety and security of our campus community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate police radios, phone consoles, and various equipment and technologies to receive and process requests and information from institutional affiliates, law enforcement, and other public safety agencies.
  • Monitor alarm systems (fire, intrusion, emergency phone, mobile app, environmental) and initiate, document, and coordinate appropriate response.
  • Schedule logistics and secure resources for response to emergency incidents for the institution.
  • Record and maintain officer location and status checks into database.
  • Communicate effectively and provide accurate and detailed instructions to all types of audiences in high-stress emergency situations.
  • Relay emergency and non-emergency information received to other appropriate agencies based on department capabilities and jurisdiction.
  • Troubleshoot, triage, and escalate issues according to established policies and procedures.
  • Receive and process Emergency Notification System requests for UW Oshkosh Police Department or other University departments and individuals.
  • Document incidents accurately and adhere to all applicable policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Train new dispatchers, manage training task updates, and provide training and coaching weekly reports.
  • Provide training, leadership, motivation, and insight to student employees and officers performing dispatch duties.
  • Maintain complex records of information in directories and alarm databases, ensures continuity of operations plans, and ensures other resources are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Assist with leading and coordinating projects.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a customer service-related position.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to perform varied tasks quickly, accurately and simultaneously while under stress.
  • Ability to recognize and protect confidential information.
  • Must have a positive attitude and be proactive and team-oriented.
  • Good vision, hearing and an ability to tune in and out background noises.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher college degree.
  • Prior experience in a dispatch center or a communications center capacity.
  • Knowledge of the TIME system procedures and DOT/NCIC/CIB polices and guidelines.
  • Some knowledge of Police authority, judicial procedures, and law enforcement reporting requirements.
  • Ability to operate communications systems, including two-way radio dispatch equipment, multiple-line telephone systems, MDC systems, and alarms systems.
