The Recreation Therapy Manager plays a pivotal role in the development and execution of therapeutic recreation programs for the Arizona State Veteran Home (ASVH) located in Yuma, AZ. In this position, you will be tasked with crafting, planning, organizing, and implementing recreational services while ensuring adherence to established guidelines, policies, and regulations. Your therapeutic services may encompass a variety of modalities, including but not limited to biofeedback, massage therapy, music therapy, art therapy, yoga, and guided relaxation techniques.
As an employee of the State of Arizona, you will engage with the Arizona Management System (AMS) methodologies and apply AMS principles for effective problem-solving and ongoing improvements in work processes. Additionally, as a member of the Department of Veterans' Services, you will foster a culture centered on Veteran/Member-focused care in your daily responsibilities.
As the Recreation Therapy Manager, your responsibilities will include:
Designing, planning, organizing, and implementing recreational therapy services. Collaborating with department staff and interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive treatment plans. Evaluating program effectiveness and making necessary adjustments to meet the needs of Veterans/Members. Ensuring compliance with facility policies and relevant state, VA, and federal regulations. Providing training and support to therapeutic staff to achieve program objectives. Participating in the creation and execution of interdisciplinary care plans for residents receiving wellness services. Assisting Veterans/Members in organizing and developing council meetings in line with federal and state guidelines. Maintaining accurate program and administrative records; preparing reports as required. Involvement in budget planning and monitoring expenditures within budgetary constraints. Managing supplies and equipment for Recreation Therapy and Wellness Services. Developing and overseeing volunteer programs, including orientation and training. Acting as a liaison between the facility and community organizations. Reviewing and updating Activities/Recreational Therapy policies to ensure regulatory compliance. Completing special projects as assigned. Attending agency meetings and participating in various committees. Engaging actively in AMS processes. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):Knowledge of:
State administrative rules and policies governing the agency. Principles and techniques of recreational therapy. Alternative therapeutic approaches. The needs of patients with dementia. Community resources. Recruitment and training of staff and volunteers.Skills in:
Effective verbal and written communication. Time management. Implementing recreational therapy activities. Observing and assessing patient behavior and progress. Developing and executing patient care plans within a team framework. Leadership and supervisory skills.Ability to:
Transport residents using a state vehicle. Selective Preference(s):Clinical training and experience, with a strong background in alternative therapy modalities.
Pre-Employment Requirements: A Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field. Certification as a Recreation Therapist or equivalent credentials. A current negative TB skin test or a physician's statement of freedom from Tuberculosis. Ability to obtain and retain a valid AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card. A valid state-issued driver's license appropriate for the assignment.If driving is an essential function of the job, additional requirements will apply.
