Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Truck Driver to join our team at BWI Companies. As a Driver, you will play a critical role in meeting our customers' needs and ensuring the safe transportation of goods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive tractor-trailer combinations and straight trucks to transport and deliver products.
  • Frequently interact with customers to ensure satisfaction and resolve any issues.
  • Follow safety and placarding procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform trip, vehicle, and equipment inspections to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain logs of working hours and vehicle service and repair to ensure accurate records.
  • Obtain delivery receipts/signatures and collect payment when required.
  • Check load documentation for completeness and accuracy to ensure timely delivery.
  • Correctly maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions to prevent damage.
  • Properly secure cargo for transport to prevent loss or damage.
  • Read invoices to determine assignment details and ensure accurate delivery.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, and damage to vehicles or property to ensure prompt action.
  • Read and interpret maps to navigate routes efficiently.
  • Couple and uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
  • Collect delivery instructions, verifying instructions and routes to ensure accurate delivery.
  • Operate onboard computers, CB radios, and telephones to communicate with dispatch and customers.
  • Load and unload trucks and help others with loading and unloading to ensure efficient operations.
  • Collaborate with other BWI employees to ensure customer satisfaction and teamwork.
  • Call the office twice daily to report progress and receive instructions.
  • Turn in travel expenses with receipts at the conclusion of each trip to ensure accurate reimbursement.
  • Complete trip reports and returns to ensure accurate records.
  • Maintain tractor/truck cleanliness to ensure a safe working environment.
Requirements
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Have a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) 'A' & 'B', with Haz-Mat and Tanker Endorsement.
  • Have at least one-year CDL driving experience.
  • Have a clean MVR with less than 3 moving violations over three-year period.
  • Be able to pass DOT physical & DOT drug screen.
  • Have no DWI / DUI convictions within the past 5 years.
