Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients and their ability to engage in prescribed procedures. Clearly explain the procedure's duration, process, and expected outcomes. Verify informed consent and assist physicians with interventional procedures, including needle localization, aspiration, biopsies, and other invasive techniques. Maintain aseptic and sterile techniques and adhere to universal precautions. Provide patient education as needed.
- Select appropriate equipment, set technical parameters, and prepare necessary supplies before procedures. Adhere to radiation safety standards, including Image Gently and Image Wisely protocols. Understand and comply with all radiation protection regulations, including the use of lead protection during fluoroscopy or in areas with potential exposure.
- Gather comprehensive patient histories and document this information to assist in image interpretation and future patient interactions.
- Perform quality assessments of obtained images and evaluate equipment functionality, reporting any issues to supervisors or management.
- Ensure all equipment is operational at the start of each day and prior to procedures. Conduct required performance and quality tests on equipment, including ACR quality standards. Check supplies for expiration dates and report any shortages or equipment malfunctions.
- Engage in department, campus, and system quality improvement initiatives, understanding the ACR accreditation process, Radiation Safety, ALARA principles, and applicable state regulations. Be familiar with CMS and Joint Commission requirements and articulate departmental processes related to quality and care environments.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire
- ARRT Board Certification in Radiology
- Possession of a valid Medical Radiography or General Radiology Technologist Permit to Practice license in the relevant state
