The House Supervisor provides oversight, administrative guidance, and leadership to all Nursing Personnel on assigned shift. Ensures delivery of care and safety are maintained per hospital policy.
Key Responsibilities- Utilize the nursing process to ensure appropriate delivery of nursing care.
- Have a working knowledge of the Hospital's administrative policies and procedures.
- Have a working knowledge of the nursing services policies and procedures.
- Adjust staffing as needed to ensure proper coverage according to designated staff/patient ratios, acuity of patients, and skill level of staff.
- Responsible for replacement of staff persons who are scheduled but unable to work.
- Reports and informs appropriate administrators of any issues that require follow-up.
- Monitors and evaluates nursing care given, makes rounds throughout hospital. Provides supervision to staff nurses and ancillary personnel on his/her designated shift, including disciplinary action.
- Participate with the Nurse Unit Manager and other nursing managers in the development of therapeutic programs for the unit and particularly for his/her designated shift.
- Audit adverse events to ensure quality, completion, reporting, and care standards are maintained.
- Assist/oversee restraints or use of seclusion in an emergency. Review policy and procedures on a regular basis.
- Responsible for ensuring that all admissions during shift are handled appropriately, following the admission policies and procedures.
- Direct activities in all emergency situations, including fire, internal and external disasters, and environmental hazards (tornadoes) according to procedures.
- Review intake information as needed and collaborate with the Intake Referral Coordinator to ensure a timely referral process.
- Investigate unusual incidents/complaints from patients, personnel, and other departments and report to CNO.
- Current licensure by the State of Michigan Board of Nursing required. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
- Minimum two (2) or more years Staff Nurse experience in the related clinical area required.
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills required to effectively interact with patients, public, and all levels of the hospital staff. Expected to float or be pulled to any other area as needed.
- Ability to mentor, delegate, and lead by example. Successful completion of the educational and orientation requirements of the Staff Nurse and the manage staff.
