Geotechnical Engineer Job Description

As a Geotechnical Engineer at Jacobs, you will be part of a dynamic team working on a wide range of civil infrastructure projects. Our geotechnical practice consists of over 150 engineers in 15 offices across North America, providing a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work on traditional design-bid-build and design-build projects, following projects from conceptual phase to construction phase.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to share technical knowledge and foster innovative project solutions.
  • Participate in field assignments, including observation of explorations, installation of geotechnical instrumentation, and inspection of geotechnical structures.
  • Analyze field logs, laboratory and field testing results, and use knowledge and judgment to select geotechnical design parameters.
  • Design shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, ground improvement, embankments, cut slopes, and other geotechnical structures.
  • Perform seismic hazard analyses, including site-response studies, liquefaction evaluations, and seismic slope stability evaluations.
Requirements:
  • BS in Civil Engineering or MS in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Sciences.
  • Graduate-level coursework supporting a strong technical knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical design.
  • Knowledge of computer programs for geotechnical analysis, such as Settle3D, Slide, APile, and FLAC.
  • Experience with geotechnical site characterization, deep foundation and earth retaining structure design, and seismic evaluations.

The typical salary range for this position is $72,000 - $95,000, commensurate with experience relative to the position. For remote positions, salary is geographic-dependent.
