The successful candidate will be responsible for taking on increasingly complex projects in the design of roads, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water mains, bridges, trails, and traffic signals. This role involves evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on moderately complex projects. You will develop plans, specifications, schedules, permits, and inspection reports in accordance with good engineering practice.

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary, estimated at $90,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience. Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on moderately complex projects
  • Developing plans, specifications, schedules, permits, and inspection reports in accordance with good engineering practice
  • Providing engineering support for municipal and private projects
  • Collaborating with experienced engineers and technicians to ensure high-quality project delivery
  • Developing construction cost estimates for projects
  • Reviewing construction sites to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents
  • Reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical procedures or government regulations
  • Developing project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Effectively communicating and coordinating with clients and stakeholders, both verbally and written
  • Writing project reports and funding applications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois or Indiana, or the ability to achieve PE license within 6 months
  • Valid Driver's License with a good driving record

Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word in the preparation of reports, specifications, and narrative communication with clients
  • Proficient with AutoCAD or MicroStation/GEOPAK software in the preparation of engineering and design documents
  • Experience in municipal design, GIS, modeling (water, sewer, and stormwater), and construction observation/administration
  • IDOT or INDOT experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time
  • Ability to sit, walk, reach, crouch, bend, and walk or stand on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 lbs.
