Job DescriptionThe Habilitation Specialist at 360 Total Care plays a vital role in supporting and enhancing the lives of participants with developmental disabilities. This position involves extensive community interaction as specialists accompany participants to various activities and events within and around the city, advocating for and assisting them in their social and personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Integration: Spend approximately 5 hours per day in community settings with a group of participants or just one participant, facilitating and supervising daily outdoor activities. Engage participants in a variety of community activities, including volunteering, attending fun events, and fostering social relationships. Advocate for participants' needs and rights within the community, ensuring their inclusion and respect.
Transportation and Mobility Support: Operate large vans or passenger mini-buses safely, including handling wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Ensure all transportation documentation is completed for each trip, including community transportation logs.
Behavioral and Support Ratios: Manage groups with a typical ratio of 4:1, adjusting to 1:1 as necessary for participants with high behavioral needs. Complete all required daily documentation, including participant activities, progress, and any incidents, in compliance with organizational and state regulations.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications: High school diploma required; a degree or certification in a related field (such as social work, psychology, or special education) preferred. Previous experience in a similar role, particularly in a day habilitation setting or working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; training in operating wheelchair-accessible vehicles preferred, Training in Day Hab. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to manage challenging behaviors, and adept at building relationships and advocating for others.
Physical and Mental Demands: Physical ability to participate in community activities, operate large vehicles, and assist with mobility needs of participants. Mental resilience and emotional stability to handle the dynamic nature of the work and participant needs effectively.
Work Environment: This role is based in a day habilitation center but requires extensive travel within the community. Specialists should expect to be active and mobile, engaging with participants in various settings throughout the city.
Availability & Location: This position is based in Butler County, with a focus on the Fairfield, Ohio area. The immediate responsibility will involve working starting out with one participant every Thursday, picking them up at their home in Fairfield around 8:35 AM, spending 5 hours volunteering and participating in community activities, and dropping them off by 2:00 PM (no later than 2:30 PM). After completing the participant drop-off, staff will be finished for the day and can go home. As the program expands, additional days and participants may be added.
