Recreational Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Recreational Therapist to join our team at Suncoast Behavioral Health Center. As a key member of our interdisciplinary treatment team, you will play a vital role in promoting the cognitive, social, physical, and emotional development of our patients.

• Design and implement creative and engaging recreational activities that cater to the diverse needs of our patients, including those with physical, social, emotional, and cognitive impairments.
• Utilize individual and group activity interventions to facilitate positive behavioral changes and promote healthy coping skills.
• Collaborate with the treatment team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient.
• Provide education and support to patients and their families on healthy leisure activities and resources to promote continued engagement and participation post-discharge.
• Participate in treatment team conferences to share observations and insights, and contribute to the development of treatment plans and progress summaries.
• Design and implement interventions that are tailored to the specific needs and populations served.
• Establish a safe and trusting therapeutic environment that fosters patient engagement and motivation.
• Assess patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.

• Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Current certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
• At least two years of experience providing recreational therapy services, preferably in a psychiatric setting with an adolescent population.
• Working knowledge of recreational therapy programming and effective communication skills.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, read, and lift up to 50 pounds, with participation in active physical recreational programs.
