Ultrasound Technologist Job Description

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Determine the most effective image scan technique and position for patients using immobilization and support devices.
  • Position patients, adjust equipment, secure immobilize and support devices as needed to perform procedures.
  • Determine the appropriate image technique based on anatomy and patient condition to obtain quality films for radiologists.
  • Secure patient history and record it on the appropriate form for radiologists' review.
  • Operate advanced and sophisticated Ultrasound equipment.
  • Assist radiologists with U/S procedures, including specialty procedures requiring additional experience and knowledge.
  • Adhere to safety standards and practices to ensure patient safety and quality care.
  • Maintain compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as maintaining patient records, answering phones, and scheduling examinations.
  • Coordinate quality control activities, including checking U/S films for optimal quality and disseminating exams to U/S Technologists.
  • Label U/S films according to department quality assurance standards and criteria.
  • Prepare sedation/needles as necessary following prescribed procedures.
  • Coordinate patient flow, communicate with staff radiologists, and respond to inquiries to ensure exams are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Provide instruction and orientation to students, technologists, and new technologists to assess their performance reviews.
  • Participate in problem-solving issues addressing patients, department operations, quality assurance procedures, interdepartmental relationships, and employee morale.
Requirements:
  • Graduate from an accredited AMA School of Sonography.
  • 1 year experience as a Sonographer preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIS system and basic knowledge of RIS systems.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to interact with customers from all levels.
  • Certified by Radiologic Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and CPR certification.

  • High degree of technical skills and ability to function with minimal assistance.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts any day of the week.
