Job Overview

Summit Design and Engineering Services is a leading provider of engineering and design services, seeking a skilled Transportation Construction Inspector II to join our Construction Engineering Inspection team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on highway construction projects in the Fayetteville area and throughout North Carolina, ensuring the highest quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of roadways and structures construction operations, performing calculations and computations as needed.
  • Collect and analyze materials sampling and testing data.
  • Monitor and perform inspections on complex and routine highway projects, ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain daily records of project activities and monthly project estimates.
  • Take field measurements and calculate contract pay quantities.
  • Read and interpret roadway, bridge, and structure plans and contract specifications.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Proficient in using iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox, and/or OneDrive.
  • Ability to work independently, use own judgment, and make decisions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform required testing and maintain detailed reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public.
  • Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge, and structure plans and contract specifications.
  • Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and stand for up to 12 hours a day.
  • Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb, and balance, and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Driver's license with a good driving record and ability to drive.
  • Level II Technicians: Minimum four years of relevant experience. Must be able to perform duties without supervision and be able to read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements.
  • Level III Technicians: Minimum five years of relevant experience. Must be able to perform duties without supervision and be able to read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements.

  • NCDOT QMS Roadway
  • NCDOT Conventional Density
  • NCDOT ABC Sampling
  • NCDOT Borrow Pit Sampling
  • NCDOT Level II Erosion & Sediment Control
