Job Summary

The VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION is seeking a highly skilled Physician (Gastroenterologist) to join our team on a Fee Basis. As a Gastroenterologist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and performing a variety of medical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform initial histories and physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients.
  • Screen outpatients to determine need for further care.
  • Prescribe medications within defined scope of practice.
  • Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms (EKG's).
  • Initiate and expedite requests for consultations and scheduling special tests and studies.
  • Dictate notes on procedures performed for which the Gastroenterologist is responsible through participating in the care of veteran patients.
  • Start intravenous lines and administer IV solutions/medications as needed.
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship.
  • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Licensure and Registration: Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • English Language Proficiency: Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Preferred Experience/Qualifications
  • Board certified or eligible for board certification in Gastroenterology.
  • Board certified in Internal Medicine.
  • Proficiency in all basic endoscopic procedures.
Physical Requirements

Position is in a hospital/clinic setting. Normal physical requirements are applicable, i.e. walking, standing, bending, sitting in the performance of duties.

Additional Information

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 31, 2024. Eligible applications will be referred at bi-weekly intervals until the position is filled.
