The RN Educator/WOC nurse plays a crucial role in enhancing the knowledge, skills, and practices of nursing staff through a structured educational design process aimed at addressing identified gaps in care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the subject matter expert in the management of patients with wounds, ostomies, and incontinence.
- Facilitate the professional growth of nursing staff and advocate for continuous learning as they transition through various clinical settings and roles.
- Implement a systematic approach to guide individuals and teams from their current capabilities to the desired level of performance.
- Utilize diverse educational technologies to meet learning needs, foster knowledge sharing, and enhance collaboration among staff.
- Lead initiatives and educational activities, measuring their effectiveness against organizational objectives.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution; a master's degree in nursing is preferred.
- Current RN or APRN licensure in NY.
- A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as an RN or APRN.
- BCLS and ACLS certifications are advantageous.
- WOCNCB Certification is preferred; WTA-C or equivalent certifications will be considered.
- Proficient understanding of supplies, vendors, and durable medical equipment for wound and ostomy care.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
- Excellent organizational, research, and mentoring abilities.
- Flexibility to provide education based on the availability of nursing staff.
This position entails:
- Educating nursing personnel with varying levels of expertise to meet clinic demands.
- Providing education to patients and families with diverse backgrounds and knowledge levels.
- Encouraging collaborative teamwork between inpatient and outpatient wound and ostomy care teams.
- Fostering teamwork with physicians, residents, and case managers.
- Staying informed about the latest research and advancements in the field.
- Collaborating with administrative and educational departments to plan, organize, and deliver training to clinical staff, including nurse managers and preceptors.
