Job Overview

Position: Steel Shop Lead

  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing Manager and inventory controller for seamless operations.
  • Provide necessary tools and materials to team members.
  • Analyze steel job specifications and ensure material availability.
  • Oversee the fabrication process of materials.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of steel inventory.
  • Organize the galvanizing and shipping processes.
  • Process shipping documentation and coordinate with transport services.
  • Supervise department personnel and conduct annual performance evaluations.
  • Facilitate employee training and development.
  • Implement quality control measures and rectify any discrepancies.
  • Report production issues to the Manufacturing Manager.
  • Encourage team ownership of work quality while fostering a positive work environment.
  • Assist in daily departmental operations.
  • Ensure consistent attendance and teamwork to achieve production goals.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Certification for operating forklifts.
  • Understanding of production processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in record-keeping.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Effective presentation skills.
  • Competence in operating workshop machinery.
  • Experience with MIG/TIG welding techniques.
  • Knowledge of fabrication machinery.
  • Ability to coach and evaluate employees.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, twist, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, reach, and work above shoulder level.
  • Capability to lift and carry weights up to 75 lbs.
  • Frequent pushing and pulling of weights up to 75 lbs.
