Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Facilities Engineer to join our team at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and Maintain Central Boiler and Chiller Plants
    • Operate the hospital's building automation system
    • Start and stop boilers and chillers as directed
    • Start and stop pumps, variable frequency drives, and control air compressors
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance
    • Perform preventive maintenance in the boiler and chiller plants when assigned
  • Respond to Emergencies
    • Respond to and acknowledge, silence, and reset fire alarms according to departmental policy
    • Investigate fire alarm events and direct BCFD personnel to fire locations
    • Serve on the hospital's fire emergency response team
  • Assist with Other Systems
    • Assist with other various systems, including door alarm systems, wander systems, door control systems, nurse call systems, and TV systems
  • Investigate and Resolve Issues
    • Investigate losses of power and restore power when possible
    • Communicate with the on-call or electrical superintendent and BGE as directed
    • Makes simple electrical repairs and resets breakers and restarts equipment as directed
  • Perform Routine Maintenance
    • Replace various types of lamps in lighting fixtures
    • Conduct preventive maintenance lighting rounds both interior and exterior
  • Investigate and Resolve Leaks
    • Investigate leaks and stop leaks with appropriate control valves and other means
    • Assist with water/floor clean up
  • Perform Plumbing and HVAC Tasks
    • Unclog sinks, toilets, floor drains, roof drains, etc. using equipment appropriate for the task
    • Investigate HVAC temperature and ventilation complaints and adjust thermostats and other HVAC equipment when possible
  • Respond to Elevator Failures
    • Respond to elevator failures and initiate elevator rescues by contacting security and calling 911 for BCFD to conduct rescue
    • Turn off power to the elevator when necessary and contact elevator service contractor according to departmental policy
    Requirements
    • A 1st-grade stationary engineer's license valid in the State of Maryland
    • A high school level of educational development (high school graduate or GED)
    • Five years of previous experience, with hospital or other healthcare experience preferred
    • A Maryland Class C driver's license
    • Strong analytical skills to gather and interpret information in both routine and emergencies
    • Ability to understand and respond to written and verbal instructions
    • Ability to use an electronic tablet device for tracking work hours and completion of work orders
    • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with patients and visitors
    • Physical, mental, and visual abilities to perform the duties of the job, including lifting and/or carrying objects weighing over 50 lbs.
