About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer I to join our Engineering team at Oscar Health. As a member of this tight-knit team, you will lead the design and development of Oscar's next-generation infrastructure platform, writing library and core code that powers thousands of applications across the company.

You will focus on scalability and reliability, crafting small amounts of precise software to power Oscar's infrastructure. You will also mentor engineers to help them design for stability, performance, and scalability across services or clients.

As a key member of our team, you will report directly to the Staff Software Engineer, Infrastructure. With a blended work culture that values collaboration and flexibility, you can expect to spend at least two days in the office each week if you live within commutable distance to one of our offices. Otherwise, this role is fully remote.

Responsibilities
  • Become an expert in your team's business and technical domains.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and release of complex technical projects.
  • Collaborate with partners, product managers, and designers to solve challenging problems.
  • Craft technical solutions that improve technology and apply best practices.
  • Implement step-wise technical migrations of our existing services and applications.
  • Own small to medium features or infrastructure projects from technical design through completion with little required guidance.
  • Work effectively across the codebase with appropriate guidance from code owners.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, working with a variety of technologies, and have increasingly impactful accomplishments.
  • Experience proposing, experimenting, and iterating on new technologies or data structures.
  • Technical contributions that improve the quality of what you create, and a passion for building fault-tolerant and scalable software systems.
  • A solid understanding of practical computer science concepts within your team.
  • The ability to consistently write stable, correct, and maintainable code with little oversight.

We estimate the salary for this role to be $158,400 - $207,900 per year, based on industry standards and location. You will also be eligible for employee benefits, including medical, dental, and vision benefits, paid sick time, paid parental leave, 401(k) plan participation, life and disability insurance, and paid wellness time and reimbursements.
