Summary: Under the guidance of the Charge Nurse, the Mental Health Counselor will provide psychiatric care to patients of various age groups, including adults, adolescents, and children. The role involves planning and executing therapeutic interventions tailored to patient needs and treatment objectives, ensuring a safe and high-quality care environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:- Act as a milieu therapist for assigned patients, collaborating with nursing staff to establish treatment strategies, conducting initial psychological assessments, and delivering consistent individual counseling focused on therapeutic goals.
- Work closely with unit staff to assess and evaluate patients' mental health status, fostering therapeutic relationships and contributing to the diagnosis and treatment planning process.
- Provide supportive care through engaging patients in conversations, recreational activities, and assistance with daily living tasks, while maintaining appropriate boundaries and encouraging positive interactions.
- Document all relevant patient information accurately, preparing regular reports on mental status and significant interactions, and ensuring effective communication of patient needs.
- Offer education and support to family members regarding the patient's condition, collaborating with external agencies as necessary, and participating in discharge planning.
- Bachelor's Degree in psychology or a related field is preferred.
- Bilingual candidates (Spanish/English) are preferred.
- BLS certification is required.
- Patient care environment with occasional risks associated with combative or distressed patients.
- Regular walking and standing are required during the performance of duties.
