Job Summary:

Virtua Health is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team on a per diem basis. As a Histology Technician, you will play a critical role in processing surgical and autopsy specimens, preparing microscopic slides for diagnostic purposes, and performing diagnostic testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Embed tissue samples in paraffin, correctly identifying type of tissue as well as normal and abnormal tissue components.
  • Cut tissue in ultra thin sections, modifying technique based on tissue type.
  • Perform routine, special, and Immunohistochemical staining procedures, understanding the basic principles of immunology as they relate to problem solving and unexpected test results.
  • Prepare tissue specimens for routine and special processing, selecting the correct protocol based on physician orders.
  • Correlate laboratory tests to disease processes and understand basic physiology required to recognize appropriate test selection.
  • Perform, review, and document quality control according to established policies and procedures, evaluating data and investigating problems.

Requirements:

  • 1 year of full-time histology experience in an accredited laboratory within the last 5 years.
  • Baccalaureate (BS) or Associate's (AS) degree with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry, or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry.
  • Graduation from an approved Histotechnology Program or HT (ASCP) certification required or registry eligible.
