Railroad Laborer Job Description

Cranemasters is seeking a skilled Railroad Laborer to join our team. As a Railroad Laborer, you will be responsible for loading, unloading, and safely transporting equipment and materials to and from job sites. You will also operate equipment at job sites, if qualified, and provide assistance with manual labor tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment in accordance with Company policy and D.O.T. regulations.
  2. Drive tractor-trailer to and from job sites, inspect loads, and machinery being transported, and verify transportation permits.
  3. Participate in discussions related to the day's work plan to ensure safety and efficiency in carrying out daily work assignments.
  4. Move, stage, load, and unload materials and equipment in preparation for work activities.
  5. Assist in assembly, inspection, and operation of cranes and other equipment.
  6. Operate equipment in conformance with standard operational policies and procedures while following all safety rules and regulations.
  7. Perform and document minor service on equipment and vehicles, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Shop Manager or Foreman for repair.
  8. Participate in disassembly and loading of cranes and other equipment as necessary at the end of job assignments.
Requirements:
  1. Three years of progressive experience operating heavy motorized equipment, including backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, grapple trucks, rail-bound equipment, tractors, and skid-steer loaders.
  2. Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a good driving record.
  3. Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  4. Strong adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  5. 24/7 availability to respond to emergency calls for service, including weekends and holidays.
Physical Demands:
  1. Constantly on feet.
  2. Walking and carrying loads on uneven surfaces and in ballast.
  3. Working in all weather conditions.
  4. Working extended hours.
  5. Constant bending, twisting, stooping, standing, and/or walking.
  6. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; loads in excess of 50 pounds should be made lighter.
