About the Role:

The Power Plant Operator will play a critical role in supporting the overall operation of our hydro-electric power plant, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our electrical generating system. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct daily plant and intake inspections to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment, including chain saws, and perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks to support plant reliability.
  • Monitor security systems, keep accurate logs and reports, and respond to emergent plant issues at all hours of the day.
  • Assist in developing plant safety procedures and JSA procedures, and participate in safety programs developed by the company.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors in the performance of their activities, and communicate effectively with regional managers and other stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • At least two years of related experience in a power plant or industrial setting, with a strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Instrumentation and control system experience, including troubleshooting of PLC based control systems and general calibration of instrumentation devices.
  • Ability to communicate and report all downtime related events in a timely manner to the regional manager.
  • Experience with basic industrial maintenance techniques, and the ability to work in hot, noisy, and dark environments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, with a vocational certificate or degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting at least 50 lbs, bending, and maneuvering in tight quarters.
  • Comfortability working at heights and around water, with the ability to work with and wear respiratory protection.
  • Clear and effective verbal communication in all circumstances, including emergency situations and giving/receiving instructions over a radio.
