Senior Software Engineer:
This role is designed to assist clients at the Perelman School of Medicine. We seek a Senior Software Engineer with a strong background in Ruby, PHP, or other scripting languages (such as Perl, Python, etc.).
Position Overview:


The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for creating tailored software solutions for Penn Medicine, which encompasses the Perelman School of Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania Health System.

The applications developed will align with Penn Medicine's objectives of education, research, and patient care, including facilitating the administrative operations of our medical school and health system.


Required Skills & Competencies:
- Proficient in conveying technical concepts and ideas.

- Skilled in managing multiple projects while adhering to deadlines.
- Proficient in developing web application user interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Experienced in application development using preferred technologies:


Ruby or PHP or other scripting languages (Perl, Python, etc.). Demonstrated expertise in modern relational database design and advanced querying techniques (e.g., stored procedures, triggers, user-defined functions, etc.).
- Familiarity with C#, .NET (including ASP.NET, .Net Core, MVC), JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular), and IIS.


Understanding of academic environments and processes, particularly in student records management, faculty recruitment, data management, and research environments, along with relevant regulatory frameworks (FERPA, HIPAA, FISMA).
- Exposure to healthcare information systems in clinical and physician practice settings, such as Epic EMR.
- Knowledge of healthcare operations, terminology, and data standards (e.g., HL-7).
- Experience with Agile development methodologies, particularly Scrum.
- Familiarity with reporting technologies such as SSRS, PowerBI, or Business Objects.
- Experience in developing mobile web applications and sites.

Key Responsibilities:


- Develops custom clinical, academic, research, and administrative software applications and web solutions to support the mission of Penn Medicine (the University of Pennsylvania Health System and the Perelman School of Medicine).


- Provides advanced technical design, development (database and/or GUI), technical support, and end-user assistance for custom applications and web solutions.

- Engages in product and project planning, including the development of specifications, project plans, and supporting documentation.

- Assists in identifying future technical infrastructure needs.

- Acts as a resource for team members, offering training, guidance, and mentorship.

- Performs duties in alignment with Penn Medicine's values, policies, and procedures.

- Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree (Required).

- 5+ years of experience in designing, developing, and supporting multi-tiered object-oriented applications (e.g., web, application, database tiers) (Required).


- 5+ years of experience with Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or other advanced relational database management systems, including database design (Required).
