Physical Therapist

Special School District of St. Louis County is seeking a highly skilled Physical Therapist to join our team of dedicated professionals. As a Physical Therapist in our Special Education department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality physical therapy services to students with diverse needs.
Job Summary:The Physical Therapist will evaluate students for physical limitations, developmental delays, self-help skills, functional daily living skills, and adaptive equipment needs. They will develop and administer educational programs based on evaluation results, interpret test and diagnostic findings to parents, teachers, and other entitled parties, and provide training for educational staff and supervise programs conducted by educational staff.
Responsibilities:- Evaluate students for physical limitations, developmental delays, self-help skills, functional daily living skills, and adaptive equipment needs
- Develop and administer educational programs based on evaluation results
- Interpret test and diagnostic findings to parents, teachers, and other entitled parties
- Provide training for educational staff and supervise programs conducted by educational staff
- Recommend or fabricate adaptive equipment for ADL (Activities of Daily Living) needs, for mobility, and for individualized classroom seating and positioning
- Monitor utilization of prosthetics, orthotics, and adaptive appliances
- Provide home programs for parents/guardians when appropriate
- Participate in district and/or special interest meetings as appropriate
- Participate in continuing education and professional conferences and workshops to keep abreast of current treatment methods and to disseminate information to other disciplines
- Assist with orientation of new staff members
- Maintain student records; prepare progress reports on student performance; prepare other reports as requested
- Maintain inventory of materials and supplies; submit requisitions as needed
- Collaborate with students, colleagues, parents, and the general public
- Supervise physical (PTA) therapy assistants and clinical students
- Provide consultation to teachers, assistants, and aides regarding individualized handling and positioning techniques, adaptive equipment, materials, and programs as needed
- Serve on committees making recommendations to department head
- Bachelor's, master's, or clinical doctorate in physical therapy required
- Experience in pediatrics/school-based occupational/physical therapy preferred
- Missouri Physical Therapy License required
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one and before groups.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to collect and graph skill programming and behavior data, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to problem-solve and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or oral diagram form.
- Physical Requirements: While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel, and reach. The position requires the ability to accompany students anywhere on school premises. The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
