Position: Senior Counsel, Real Estate Transactions
Ashton Woods is on the lookout for a Senior Counsel specializing in Real Estate Transactions. We seek a seasoned real estate attorney to become an integral part of our corporate legal team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive transactional real estate expertise, which includes drafting and negotiating various agreements such as purchase and sale contracts, financing arrangements, and joint development pacts. Responsibilities will include assessing and mitigating risks, conducting legal analysis of due diligence and development issues, and formulating solutions for complex transactions.
The role entails collaborating with internal stakeholders to devise transaction strategies, overseeing real estate transactions across the organization, managing external legal counsel, and providing guidance to internal clients at both corporate and divisional levels. This includes offering legal insights on real estate transactions, contract negotiations, due diligence processes, development challenges, and evaluating legal and business risks.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of robust transactional real estate experience, having taken a lead role in negotiations and interactions with clients and opposing counsel. This individual will be adept at delivering legal support and advice to clients and senior management on a diverse range of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, development, financing, and property dispositions. Strong organizational and communication skills, coupled with a keen business sense, are essential for managing multiple transactions while providing timely and practical legal counsel to the legal team and senior executives. Experience in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing legal documents related to land acquisitions, financing, development, and dispositions is crucial. Familiarity with advising business leaders on development matters, community facility districts, homeowner associations, and utility availability issues is highly desirable.
