Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Staff Engineer, your duties will include:

  • Architecting, implementing, and overseeing scalable and resilient private cloud solutions utilizing OpenStack and MaaS.
  • Creating automation workflows for provisioning, configuring, and managing bare metal servers in expansive environments.
  • Conducting thorough performance evaluations and optimizations of Metal and Cloud ecosystems, emphasizing efficiency, reliability, and integration with private cloud strategies.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and enhance tools that automate and streamline infrastructure deployment and operations.
  • Producing high-quality, well-documented code, adhering to OpenSource community development standards.
  • Contributing to the strategy and execution of data protection, disaster recovery, and security measures across all private cloud frameworks.
  • Driving continuous improvement by keeping abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices, ensuring the security, stability, and scalability of system architecture.
  • Being accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions.
  • Providing leadership across multiple areas and guiding engineering teams.
  • Utilizing programming languages such as Python, C#, or other object-oriented languages, along with SQL and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and various Azure tools and services.
  • Sharing best practices consistently and enhancing processes within and across teams.
  • Mentoring junior engineers, offering guidance and insights related to cloud infrastructure and best practices in system management.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Expertise in OpenStack components and services.
  • Experience with KVM and Metal as a Service platforms.
  • A proven track record in designing and implementing complex IT solutions at scale.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Python and Go.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IAC) methodologies, particularly Terraform.
  • Proficiency in Ansible for configuration management and deployment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, including system administration and scripting.
  • A solid understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security measures (TCP/IP, HTTP, load balancing, etc.).
  • Experience in Operating Systems design, deployment, and debugging, especially in Linux and Windows environments.
  • Hands-on experience with configuring and integrating cloud storage technologies such as fiber channel storage, SAN, and Software Defined Storage like Ceph and MINIO.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a proven history of overcoming technical challenges.
  • Effective communication abilities, capable of fostering strong relationships with team members, stakeholders, and external partners.

Required Experience

Candidates should have:

  • 6+ years in a similar role, focusing on OpenStack cloud environments and hardware automation.
  • 6+ years of demonstrated experience in designing, deploying, and managing large-scale private clouds.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in systems/server management with technologies like Redfish, BMC, and IPMI standards.
  • 5+ years of experience integrating and configuring cloud storage solutions such as direct attached storage, Storage Area Network (SAN), and JBOD.
  • 5+ years of experience with security protocols and products, including Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, and OAuth.
  • 4+ years of experience in a collaborative development environment, utilizing modern software development methodologies.
  • 4+ years of scripting/coding experience in languages such as C/C++, Bash, Python, or Go.
  • 4+ years of experience in developing and maintaining large-scale, high-availability systems.
  • 4+ years of active engagement with OpenSource communities, contributing to projects, forums, or discussions.

Desired Experience

Preferred qualifications include:

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in systems architecture and design.
  • 6+ years of experience in open-source frameworks.
  • 4+ years of experience working with AWS, GCP, Azure, or other cloud services.
  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience.

Education

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience is required.

Annual Salary

The salary range is $110,000 to $261,000. This range serves as a general guideline, with multiple factors influencing the final hourly rate or annual salary offered to the selected candidate.
