Fire Chief

The City of Gadsden is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Chief to lead its fire department. As the chief executive officer of the department, the Fire Chief will be responsible for directing and coordinating all department activities, including fire suppression and prevention, rescue, emergency medical treatment, hazardous materials response, and training programs.

• Supervise and direct staff, including fire fighters, emergency medical technicians, and administrative personnel.
• Develop and implement department policies and procedures.
• Oversee the Fire Prevention Bureau and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Prepare and submit an annual budget and make expenditures within approved limits.
• Develop and implement long-term goals for the department to promote effectiveness and efficiency.
• Ensure adequate records are kept of all required response, maintenance, and training.
• Assume command of emergency operations as needed.
• Supervise and conduct staff in-service training and public educational programs.
• Liaise with representatives of neighboring fire departments to ensure adequate mutual aid agreements are made for mitigating major emergency incidents.
• Direct equipment maintenance management.

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Fire Service Management, Fire Prevention Engineering, Emergency Services, Public Safety, or related field.
• At least four (4) years of Fire/EMS management experience at the rank of Fire Chief, Assistant/Deputy Chief, Battalion Chief, Division Chief of EMS, Fire Marshall, Assistant Fire Marshall, Division Chief of Training, Assistant Training Officer, or Lieutenant in a fire department equivalent in size to the Gadsden Fire Department or larger.
• Basic or Advanced EMT certification required.
• Preferred qualifications include a Master's Degree in a related field, City of Gadsden residency, and Paramedic Certification.

Salary: $75,315.24 - $99,376.86 per year
