Renewable Energy Origination Specialist

About the Role:

Energix North America is seeking a highly skilled Origination Lead to join our team. As a key member of our origination team, you will be responsible for leading and negotiating complex land and site acquisition agreements, managing 3rd party consultants, and working with our permitting and legal teams to gain critical community support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement department strategy for targeting, negotiating, and acquiring a portfolio of key sites and land, both rural and industrial.
  • Manage project site acquisition budgets, landowner management, and payments, as well as cash flow projections.
  • Support the company's public presentations at external stakeholder, project, and policy meetings.
  • Facilitate training and technical support for new staff and projects as needed.
  • Manage / work with landowner community groups to facilitate strong community perception and foster good relationships with landowners.
  • Make presentations before public bodies and large community groups as needed, fielding questions and furthering the interests of the company and the landowner.
  • Travel as required to facilitate land acquisition efforts and foster positive relationships with landowners and other interested parties.
  • Prepare acquisition documents, including leases, options, LOIs, memoranda, etc., and file documents with local recorders of deeds.
  • Upload data into relevant spreadsheets in a timely manner and keep all interested parties informed of project progress in real time.
  • Perform initial due diligence to determine suitability and availability of targeted properties, including title, environmental, and zoning.
  • Focus on project goals and produce under strict project deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, but not required.
  • Strong preference given to those with survey and/or mine permitting experience.
  • Commercial Real Estate license and experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing / working with 3rd parties in complex transactions and negotiations.
  • 3+ years of experience in large project transactions, including infrastructure, oil/gas, energy, or similar real property acquisition transactions.
  • Experience working with Escrow Officers to close real estate transactions, including drafting escrow instructions, coordinating closing, and handling pre-closing and post-closing matters.
  • Experience in real estate due diligence, including land surveys, assessment of title risk, and clearing of title matters, hazardous materials investigations and remediation, and land use permitting.
  • Large project siting and real property management experience.
  • Prior experience with O&G, coal mining industries, and/or solar experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with local, state, and federal permit and other regulations, ability to work seamlessly with our permit and legal teams.
  • Experience researching mineral rights and acquisition of mineral rights waivers.
  • Comfortable addressing large public and landowner groups, fielding questions, and furthering the interests of the company and the landowner.
  • Experience with project management systems, cloud-based/internet software systems, including systems for tracking contractual obligations relating to real estate agreements.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet project milestones in a timely manner.

Location:

  • Strong preference for the candidate to have prior experience in the above within the states of Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or Virginia.
  • Strong preference for the candidate to be currently located in West Virginia or Kentucky.
  • Position will be remote with 30-50% travel. Trips to our headquarters office in Arlington, VA will be required from time to time.
